peyronies disease
A Turn In The Wrong Direction Peyronie's Disease (pronounced pay-rone-eez) is a bending or curvature in the penis that can be painful. The curve can be slight to extreme bending almost 90 degrees! In most cases it is least severe ranging anywhere from 20 degrees to 60 degrees. It is not life threatening but can but your 'love making' off for months to years. Experts say this disorder afflicts 1 - 2 men out of 100 and has haunted men for centuries. It is named after the physician to Louis XV of France. Peyronie's Disease can happen overnight - suddenly without warning, but is usually a result from a recent incident while love-making or walking blindly in the night right into a wall. These unfortunate accidents can cause a break in the tissue leading to this disorder. After an accident the penis's inside jacket or sheath called the 'tunica albuginea' is torn. The tunica albuginea is the outside cover that wraps around the corpora cavernosa cylinders of the penis. When this sheath is torn it quickly repairs itself. Sometimes the repairing process is so great that it lays on too much scar tissue which causes the curvature in the penis. This scar can be seen and felt just below the surface of penis. Here's an analogy of the process; imagine blowing a balloon just a little, then applying a piece of tape to one side. This tape acts as the scar tissue. Now, continue blowing up the balloon...see what happens? The balloon is bending to one side (scar tissue side) because the tape is restricting the elasticity of the balloon. The same thing happens to the penis during Peyronie's Disease.

Our Preventive/Defensive Advice
Don't worry if your
penis is not perfectly straight. Experts say there really is
no perfectly straight penis. However, if you just had a recent
'wild' sexual experience or a genital incident and you feel
pain or see an unusual bend in your penis, we suggest taking a
photo of your erect penis and seeing a urologist.
You might also want to take Vitamin E. This has been known to help Peyronie's patients in the past. Some drastic measures to soften the scar tissue has been the use of radiation and steroid injections. Today doctors may have other means to help break down the scar tissue and help treat this disorder.
To help prevent this from ever occurring, we strongly suggest 'defensive sex'. Take caution
during sex...trying not to bend or put stress on the penis. A
dangerous position is the woman-on-top, bending backward,
riding rodeo style. If she is not careful, she might slip off
you and try to come back down slamming onto you, she might
miss and...OUCH! Get the picture?
Surgery
Only 20 - 25 percent of Peyronie's patients who seek medical
help will end up in surgery to help resolve their disorder.
Surgery that takes drastic measures might include; removing a
patch on the good side of the penis which straightens you out,
or cutting into the scar tissue then placing a graft of skin
tissue to help straighten and reconfigure the penis, or implanting a prosthesis hoping to release the scar tissue.
